Conor McGregor, you suspect, wouldn’t change a thing about the career path he chose.Having conquered the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the Irishman is now preparing to face boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in what is expected to be the most lucrative fight in history. However, there’s a chance that, had he not opted to pursue Mixed Martial Arts as his profession, McGregor could have made a career for himself in football. It turns out that the UFC superstar was a pretty handy amateur footballer back in the day.“He played for me with a club called Slievenamon United when we played in the UCFL. He was a striker and was our top scorer every year," Robbie Beakhurst, McGregor’s former manager, was quoted as telling JSP by Goal earlier this month."I took over Yellowstone Celtic and took him with me and again he was scoring for fun on a weekly basis.“He used to just say to the rest of team ‘just give me the ball and I’ll do the rest’ – he was a smashing player but we had a decent team. As he got more involved in the MMA he couldn’t make matches and we allowed him to skip training.”

Liverpool fans think McGregor is one of them

So, we know that Notorious likes his football - but which club does he support?

Footage of McGregor declaring himself as a “red” and saying “f*** Everton!” has led Liverpool supporters on Twitter to believe he’s one of them.

And here’s how Liverpool fans have reacted…

Here's what McGregor said in 2015

However, back in May 2015, McGregor revealed to the Independent that he actually supported a very different club.

“I was big into football as a kid, but more as a player than a watcher,” he revealed. “I suppose if you pushed me I would say Manchester United, but that’s only because it gets passed down from generation to generation. I think just about everyone in Ireland is either a Liverpool or United fan. But some people go a little weird, referring to the team they support as “we”. To me that’s a little crazy.”

So, he’s actually a Man Utd fan?

During the same interview, he also expressed his admiration for ex-United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Ronaldo is a phenomenal athlete,” he added. “His speed, his takeoff from a standing start and his ability to operate at high speeds are impressive.”
