Southampton Football Club and their supporters must be sick to the back teeth of Liverpool. They’ve lost so many of their key players to the Merseyside outfit over recent years, including Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren. And earlier this summer, the Reds attempted to raid Southampton again with their controversial pursuit of Virgil van Dijk, who wants to leave St Mary’s after having his head turned by Jurgen Klopp.Matt Le Tissier, the retired striker who lit up the Premier League, is Southampton through and through. He could be forgiven if, like other Saints fans, he wasn’t particularly fond of Liverpool at this moment of time after everything that’s happened over the past few seasons.
Le Tissier's Coutinho tweet triggered Liverpool fans
Earlier today he decided to have a cheeky dig at Liverpool amid reports that Barcelona are pushing hard to sign Philippe Coutinho.
“Hope Liverpool do the right thing and let Coutinho join Barca so he doesn't have to go on strike, he deserves a move to a club like that ð” Le Tissier tweeted on Sunday morning.
The tweet has since gone viral.
Le Tissier's response to this tweet was gold
This led to one Liverpool fan biting back: “But Sir, Liverpool are not a feeder club like Soton. ðððð“
Le Tisser, however, had the perfect reply to this tweet.
“Fed them Suarez and mascherano didn't they“.
Boom.
Yes Matt, yes they did.
Suarez joined Barcelona in 2014
Luis Suarez ended up securing a move to the Camp Nou in the summer of 2014, despite signing a new contract extension with Liverpool months earlier.
Mascherano joined Barcelona in 2010
Javier Mascherano, meanwhile, left Anfield for Barcelona four years earlier and has enjoyed remarkable success since.
Coutinho must be a bit tempted
Given how Suarez and Mascherano’s careers have gone from strength to strength since leaving Liverpool for Barça, Coutinho must surely be tempted by the prospect of becoming a Culé this summer.
