Battleground 2017 marked one huge return for WWE ahead of the event as the Punjabi Prison match made it's way back to the company.

The match would be the main event and would house the battle for the WWE Championship between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton.

Return of a giant

Former World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali would make an appearance prior to the main event and would in the end hand the victory to Jinder Mahal.

Mahal used every trick in the book to beat Orton, ranging from the Singh Brothers appearing from under the ring to the eventual inclusion of Khali.

Orton - essentially fighting again four men would put in a great account of himself, even managing to climb out of the outer structure having overcome the odds.

As Orton scaled the outer  structure though, Mahal's music started again and Khali slowly made his way to the ring.

The former World Champion would prevent Orton from winning and even wrap his hand around Orton's throat to prevent the Viper from climbing to freedom.

In what was their third battle over the WWE Championship, Mahal once again came out on top of Orton as the fans got a huge dose of nostalgia.

From the return of Khali to the actual appearance of the Prison itself, fans were given a throwback to a much older version of the WWE.

Khali is often credited as the originator of the Punjabi Prison match so him interfering at Battleground wasn't completely unexpected.

Rumours had began circulating ahead of the event that he may of been appearing at the show but fans have a lot of questions now surrounding his WWE status.

It would be interesting to see Khali return to the main roster but it is difficult to place where he would fit.
