Pre-season can be a very important time for Europe's top teams.

Most, if not all, have begun tours of the world and some will even face each other in places like the United States or China.

A number of Premier League sides have already played. Chelsea took on Arsenal in Beijing, with the Blues running out 3-0 winners against a weakened Gunners side.

Manchester City and Manchester United have already met, taking their famous old derby stateside.

Jose Mourinho's team ran out 2-0 winners there, but again, it won't be so easy when the season kicks off for real in August.

On Sunday night, the Red Devils faced a huge challenge, taking on Champions League holders Real Madrid in California.

The Galacticos were able to bring their stars to fans halfway across the world, with the likes of Gareth Bale, Isco and Karim Benzema starting.

United weren't under-represented either, with Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku starting on the bench and Michael Carrick and Anthony Martial in the first 11.

Despite being a friendly, the game was expected to bring the flair of the European champions against the strong fight of Mourinho's United.

And it didn't disappoint. With a few minutes left in the first half, Luka Modric took Marouane Fellaini to school.

The Madrid midfielder embarrassed his opponent by taking the ball into his feet, before slipping past the Belgian.

He poked the ball to one side, before running the other and sending a dangerous ball into the United box.

Check it out below.

It was a pretty slick piece of skill from Modric and it's fair to say that Twitter loved it too.

The game finished 1-1, with Jesse Lingard scoring for United before Casemiro equalised for the Spanish side.

With no extra time, the game went straight to penalties, where Mourinho's side won 2-1.
