With the Premier League season kicking off in August, the big teams have been trying to complete their transfer business early. Signing world-class players is key to a successful campaign, but preparation is not far behind, so pre-season is very important. Some teams have already bought big. Manchester United have signed Romelu Lukaku for £75 million and he's already been impressing during friendly matches. League holders Chelsea are not far behind. They've secured Alvaro Morata for a fee that could rise up to £70 million. Across London, Arsenal have made a statement signing. Alexandre Lacazette has joined from Lyon, for a club record fee of over £52 million. Unfortunately, the Frenchman couldn't help the Gunners out on Saturday, as they lost 3-0 to Antonio Conte's Blues in China. Securing a big striker was part of Arsene Wenger's summer plans, but there's another player who could seriously affect Arsenal's title hopes next season. And it's not someone who could come into the club, but rather someone that is expected to leave. Forward Alexis Sanchez has been linked with a move away from the Emirates for a number of months. The Chilean has less than a year to run on his contract and isn't exactly giving off the idea that he's willing to sign a new one. Naturally, two big clubs have been reported to be fighting for his services. Those teams are Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. The French club were expected to make a bid for Sanchez soon, but the player appears to have put them off before official contact has been made. The Manchester Evening News has suggested that the 28-year-old will price himself out of a move abroad, by demanding £500,000-a-week to move to Paris.Understandably, interest from the French club has now cooled. The reason Sanchez is demanding so much money, according to James Robson, who writes for the British newspaper, is so he can stay in the Premier League.
If he's serious about not signing a new contract, Arsenal would rather cash in now - even if that meant selling him to a direct rival.
Otherwise, they'd lose him for free next summer and make a huge loss of £60 million according to Robson.
With all this taken into account, Wenger may have no choice but to let his star man leave and reinvest that money before August.
