Southampton's club captain Virgil van Dijk could soon become the most expensive defender of all time.Liverpool have shown plenty of interest in the 26-year-old Dutchman who is reportedly valued at approximately £70m.The Reds have already broken the club transfer record this summer, bringing in Mohamed Salah from Roma for £37m.The Egyptian winger has impressed in pre-season but fans are desperate for another big name signing ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.Despite Liverpool's interest in Naby Keita and Van Dijk, RB Leipzig and Southampton are both holding a very firm stance.Southampton reported Liverpool to the Premier League earlier this summer but their interest in the highly rated centre back has not waned.On Friday, Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino revealed that Van Dijk had informed him that he wanted to leave the club."He is not involved with the team because psychologically he is not 100%," Pellegrino told BBC Solent."When I was talking with him, the boy said that he is not available to play because he wants to leave."The former Celtic defender had been training alone and an official club announcement today suggests he won't be training with the first team for the foreseeable future.Flying to France for a pre-season training camp, the Saints revealed their 25 man squad list on Monday morning and there was one notable omission.
