In the main event of Battleground this past Sunday, Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal took part in a Punjabi Prison match for the WWE Championship. This was the first time this match type had taken place in the WWE in ten years.

Unfortunately for The Viper, he was unable to regain the WWE title, as The Modern Day Maharaja was able to climb out of the Punjabi Prison first thanks to the help of the Singh Brothers and the return of the Punjabi Prison's creator, The Great Khali.

Orton was able to fight off both of the Singh Brothers during the match, which included a spot where he punched Samir Singh off the cage from a high point, causing him to fall through an announcer's table.

However, much to the WWE Universe's surprise, just as it looked as though The Viper would regain the WWE Championship, The Great Khali came out, walked down the ramp, and began to the climb the Punjabi Prison. He stopped Orton in his tracks on his escape, allowing Mahal to be the first one to climb outside of the structure and win the match.

Although the match itself between Orton and Mahal wasn't exactly spectacular, the Punjabi Prison still took its toll on both superstars. Randy came out of the match with some very nasty battle scars.

WWE posted a picture of The Viper's back following his WWE title loss against The Modern Day Maharaja where some very nasty battle scars from the Punjabi Prison were visible.

They shouldn't keep Orton out at all, but the picture shows that the Punjabi Prison is up there with the likes of Hell in a Cell and Steel Cage matches in terms of the most brutal matches the WWE has to offer.

For now, the direction of The Viper heading into SummerSlam remains unclear. Considering he is one of the companies top stars, he should have a big program heading into the company's second biggest pay-per-view of the year.

However, following another loss to Mahal, his time in the WWE Championship picture, for the time being, appears to be over. After what happened this past Sunday, he could be involved in a feud with The Great Khali, but we'll just have to wait and see what the WWE is going to do with him now he is back.
