Derrick Rose isn't the same player he was back in 2011 when he won the NBA MVP award as a member of the Chicago Bulls, but that doesn't mean he's still not a valuable asset.

After having a solid season for the New York Knicks last year, though, Rose is once again on the move and has been linked to several teams this offseason.

However, on Monday, reports surfaced that he was in talks with a team about a new contract, which would likely be a one-year deal.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Rose is meeting with the Cleveland Cavaliers to discuss a one-year, $2.1-million minimum contract, which would allow him to team up with LeBron James this fall:

"Rose met with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, but has been leaning toward the Cavaliers opportunity, league sources told ESPN," Wojnarowski writes.

In addition to the Lakers, Rose has also been connected to the Bulls, the San Antonio Spurs and the Milwaukee Bucks, among other teams, this offseason, but it seems he has his heart set on the Cavs at this point.

The timing of this meeting is certainly interesting, as star point guard Kyrie Irving recently requested a trade, reportedly because he's upset that the Cavs offered him in trades at last year's trade deadline.

However, Wojnarowski reports that Rose's meeting with the team isn't entirely to do with Irving's trade situation, though it's hard to see it as a mere coincidence:

"Rose's visit comes amid Kyrie Irving's trade request, which the organization has been aware since starting discussions with Rose recently," he writes. "The Cavaliers have been fielding multiple trade calls and offers for Irving in recent days but do not yet have traction on a possible deal, league sources said."

Though the Knicks missed the playoffs by a significant margin last season, Rose played well, posting averages of 18 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per night while appearing in 64 games.

As has been the norm the past few years, though, Rose's season was cut short with a knee injury, He had season-ending surgery in April, but he is expected to be back and ready to go at full-speed for the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

If Irving does indeed get traded in the coming weeks, a healthy Rose wouldn't be too much of a step down for the Cavs. Obviously, Rose is no longer the player Irving is, but if his minutes are managed correctly, he still has a lot of value to offer a team.
