Paris Saint-Germain's desire to wrangle the Ligue 1 title away from AS Monaco could see the French side make the biggest splash of any transfer window in recent memory, as they've been linked with a mega-money move for Neymar.Usually, speculation like this gets laughed or brushed off as players are now notorious for using big clubs to earn a much bigger contract at their current club, but PSG's chase for the Brazil international has certainly picked up steam in recent days.

WORLD RECORD OFFER

With clubs such as Manchester United unwilling to pay that massive release clause, this has left Unai Emery's side as the only team in the chase, and the Qatari owners are supposedly offering the whole £197 million to absolutely shatter the current transfer world record.

In fact, it's thought that the entire package could see them paying around £500 million, per Mirror Football.

A deal of this magnitude is bound to dominate headlines, and Bayern Munich's president has caught wind of the happenings over in the French capital and he's given his verdict on why the move is being made.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger claimed that outlets are using Neymar - like they did Alexis Sanchez - to create headlines. However, Uli Hoeness believes that PSG's approach for Neymar is actually a sign of weakness instead.

Munich pulled the plug on a big deal of their own, which saw Sanchez continued to be linked with an exit from the Emirates to the Allianz Arena, and now he's linked with Manchester City.

WEAKNESS

Speaking to Bild, Hoeness said: "This is rather a sign of weakness.

"If I have to spend a lot of money to reach nothing, it is rather a sign that I have not worked so well before.

"And that's why I can not be so interested.

"The most expensive transfer is not necessarily the best, [but] rather the one that does the most."

While Bayern have spent big this summer too, where they broke their club record to sign Corentin Tolisso, they've been praised for securing a two-year loan deal for Real Madrid's James Rodriguez for just £9 million.

You could argue that a player of Neymar's calibre is worth the price PSG are willing to pay, considering he still manages to steal the limelight on occasions, despite playing alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez every week.

Desperation or not, Neymar could be a massive asset for PSG both on and off the pitch.
