Manchester United fans will be expecting their team to challenge for the Premier League title and hold their own in the Champions League next season.

Jose Mourinho has strengthened his squad with the additions of Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku, who have cost the club a combined £100 million, but it’s important to remember they’ve lost two huge dressing room personalities in the form of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Competing on both fronts will be a serious challenge for this United squad and Mourinho, in an ideal world, will surely be looking to add at least one or two more top players to his ranks before the transfer window closes.

Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic is still being strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, as is Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.

If United land both of those players, you’d have to say it’s been a pretty decent window for the Premier League giants.

United missed out on their No. 1 transfer target

However, it’s no secret that United missed out on their No. 1 transfer target this summer.

Antoine Griezmann was on top of the pile but the French forward decided to stay with Atletico Madrid, at least for one more season, after his side’s transfer ban was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Griezmann has given his word to stay with Atletico, to avoid leaving them in the lurch, and fair play to him for that.

He could easily have been selfish and walked away from Atleti, but did the honourable thing instead.

Great news for the likes of Jesse Lingard, right?

Well, apparently not.

Lingard names the player he wants to see at United

Lingard was asked which player he wants to see at Man Utd this summer and here’s what the English winger told The Sole Supplier: “I would like to see Antoine Griezmann.”

Asked if he thought Griezmann will end up at Old Trafford, Lingard added: “I’m hoping so. He scores a lot of goals and is very creative.”

You probably would have played a lot less if Griezmann had signed, Jesse.

Think of it as a blessing in disguise.
