At this point, we know that the Cleveland Cavaliers floated Kyrie Irving’s name in trade talks for both Paul George and Jimmy Butler. We also know that Irving, who has two years left on his current contract, asked the club to trade him recently and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James.

That information was somehow leaked to the press, thus creating a complete state of confusion and disarray for the back-to-back-to-back Eastern Conference champions.

It’s worth noting that the Cavaliers do not have to get rid of Irving under any circumstance since he’s still under contract. However, if they decide to trade him, they can search for the best possible return, despite the fact that Irving reportedly asked to be traded to either the New York Knicks, Miami Heat, New York Knicks or Minnesota Timberwolves.

Therefore, with all of their options open, Cleveland believes that they can land a hefty compensation package for the point guard, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe.

“The Cavaliers are projecting confidence they can snare a king's ransom for Kyrie Irving, and more than that, they are acting -- for now -- as if a trade is almost inevitable, and that there is little chance of salvaging their relationship with him, according to several sources familiar with the situation,” Lowe noted

Since the Cavaliers and veteran free agent point guard Derrick Rose agreed to a one-year minimum deal on Monday, Irving becomes particularly expendable. If Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson stay put alongside James, the clear fit would be a sharpshooter who could play off the ball at times.

According to ESPN, the Phoenix Suns could be a possible destination for Irving, as the Suns would reportedly be willing to part with both Eric Bledsoe and 2017 No. 4 overall pick Josh Jackson.

"Josh Jackson could be the swing piece after Phoenix and Cleveland indeed talked after the draft about a swap involving the No. 4 overall pick, but the Suns were thrilled Jackson landed there. If the Suns relent on Jackson, Cleveland and Phoenix might be able to work out a simple two-team deal,” Lowe wrote.

"Talking to some executives today, they think the team that could make the Cleveland Cavs the best offer for Kyrie Irving is the Phoenix Suns," ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported. "They have a package they could offer with Eric Bledsoe and possibly this guy they just drafted, Josh Jackson. Would they be willing to include that prized young player in a package for Kyrie Irving? It's unclear at this point.”

If that deal was made, the Cavs would likely feature Rose, Bledsoe, James, Love and Thompson in their starting five with Jackson headlining a deep bench.

It would also give Irving the fresh start that he desires. While the Suns weren’t on his list of preferred destinations, he’d be the clear face of the franchise, leading a core of young, promising players into the future.
