WWE made a last minute change to the finish of a key match at Battleground.

If you thought the finish of the United States Championship match between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens at this past Sunday’s WWE Battleground pay-per-view event was a bit off, you would be right.

Owens ended up pinning him after a series of moves. Some fans even thought that it was a double pin and that the finish was botched. Either by the Superstars or the referee. However, that is not the case, according to a recent report.

The smart money betting odds came in for the event shortly before the show went live on the WWE Network. Although almost all of the favorites won, there was one exception, which was Styles, who was heavily favored to defeat Owens to retain the United States Championship.

Styles was a -4950 favorite when the pay-per-view started while Owens was a +1650 underdog. As seen at the event, Owens ended up defeating Styles to win the U.S. Championship for the third time.

Following the finish, there was some speculation that oddsmakers were wrong with the odds for the match. However, that is not the case. Dave Meltzer noted on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Styles was scheduled to win the match when the show started.

He added that the finish that took place was not the original finish, and it's not known if it was changed during the match or right before.

What’s interesting is the fallout from this match. Styles, who has been quiet on social media since the pay-per-view, stayed in the ring for a while after the match ended.

By looking at social media, fans in attendance noted that the former WWE Champion was in the ring when the Jinder Mahal - Singh Brothers segment took place backstage and also knocked over a ring step.

Some thought that Styles was legitimately upset with the finish of the match, but it appears that he was just selling it. It will be interesting to see what’s next for the two Superstars.

WWE could end up booking a rematch between them at next month’s SummerSlam pay-per-view event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Time will tell what the company ends up doing.
