N’Golo Kante’s first two seasons in the Premier League have been extraordinary. The French midfielder joined Leicester City in the summer of 2015 and played an instrumental role in the Foxes’ remarkable title triumph that same season. He then sealed a £32 million move to Chelsea and ended up winning another Premier League winners’ medal. He was inspirational once again and thoroughly deserved to win both the PFA’s Premier League Player of the Season and the FWA Footballer of the Year awards.Oh, and he was also named Chelsea’s Players’ Player of the Year. Not bad for his debut season at Stamford Bridge. The 26-year-old was hailed as the best central midfielder in the world by Frank Lampard back in March and that wasn’t an outlandish statement to make.Kante is now widely regarded as the best holding midfielder on the planet, but the 2017-18 season will be his biggest test yet. Why? Because he’ll be competing in the Champions League for the first time in his career. How will it cut it against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in Europe’s premier club cup competition? We got a taster on Tuesday as Chelsea went head-to-head against Bayern in Singapore.

Kante had a tough night v Bayern Munich

But it wasn’t a good evening for Kante, who has been heavily criticised for his performance on Twitter. Even some Chelsea fans have slammed the Frenchman, which seems incredibly harsh.

Bayern raced into a 3-0 lead before the 30-minute mark thanks to a brace from Thomas Muller and another goal from Rafinha.

However, the Blues made the full-time scoreline respectable by netting two consolation goals through Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi.
