Delivering the news to the crowd before telling them that he would be bringing it back next week kept in line with Owens' usual style.

He would however be confronted by his opponent from Sunday as the former Champion Styles made his way to the ring.

It wouldn't end there as the nightmare would become worse for Owens.

Being told that Styles wants his rematch just seconds before the music of Chris Jericho sounded only compounded Owens' misery.

Owens looked like he had seen a ghost when his former best friend and the man that he single handedly put out of commission appeared in the ring alongside himself and Styles.

After comedic scene in which AJ Styles was added to the list of Jericho, Owens would attempt to sneak away but was confronted by Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon.

McMahon would reveal a triple threat main event for the end of the show in which Owens would defend his title against both Jericho and Styles.

Jericho wouldn't win the title at the end of the night, he would instead be pinned by the new champion Styles, but he put in a strong showing nevertheless.

A huge week ahead

Following Styles' win later in the show, Owens would reveal that he wants his rematch next week on Smackdown.

The US Championship match next week will be one of two high profile encounters which will headline the show.

The second will be the dream match between John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura which will come with major Summer Slam implications.

The match was announced by Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan on Tuesday with the winner heading to Summer Slam to challenge Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship
