Phoenix Suns point guard Brandon Knight had nothing short of a tumultuous 2016-2017 season.Playing just 54 games with five starts for Phoenix, Knight averaged a career-low in points (11.0), assists (2.4) and minutes (21.1) per game and shot just 39.8 percent from the floor. As the season rolled on, he even fell out of the graces of head coach Earl Watson and didn’t see a single minute on the court after February 15. At the time, Watson said the following regarding Knight’s playing time via Doug Haller of The Arizona Republic:“I’m not changing it unless management changes it,” Watson said. “I have a boss and my boss has a boss, so whatever comes from up top is what’s going to happen. And right now, that’s not even part of our equation.”With three years and just under $44 million left on his current deal, Knight was a prime candidate to be moved this offseason.

However, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe of ESPN, things might have just gotten a bit more complicated, as the 25-year-old backup suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last week in a pro-am and is expected to miss the entire 2017-2018 season.

Knight’s career has been riddled with injuries thus far. Over seven seasons in the league as a member of the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Suns, he has never played more than 75 games in a single year.

Unfortunately for him, Knight's career has been mostly defined by one embarrassing play:

That will go down as one of the most powerful poster dunks of all-time. Knight was on the receiving end.

During his second of the three seasons that Knight spent with the Suns, he enjoyed the best statistical season of his career, averaging 19.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 36.0 minutes over 52 games with the club.

While he fell out of Watson’s rotation last season, Knight might have found himself in the mix this upcoming year behind Tyler Ulis, especially since Eric Bledsoe's status with the team is in question, as his name has been mentioned in many trade rumors.

Earlier this month, Knight’s name was linked to the New York Knicks.

Ian Begley of ESPN reported the Knicks were looking for a player to fill the void in the short term while waiting for rookie Frank Ntilikina to develop. He suggested Knight could have been part of the Carmelo Anthony trade discussions as well.

Now, Knight will have to wait another season to get back on the court when he will attempt to resurrect his career.
