Kyrie Irving shocked the NBA world last week when he announced his intentions to be traded away from the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason.

After helping the franchise win an NBA Championship and reach each of the last three Finals, the 25-year-old now wants out of Cleveland to go and lead his own team like he thought he would originally before LeBron James came back.

Upon announcing his request to be traded, Irving suggested he should be traded to either the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Miami Heat or Minnesota Timberwolves. According to reports, Two teams emerge as strong candidates to land the Cavaliers star.

According to a league source of the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns are "among particularly strong candidates to pull off a trade for Irving."

Although the point guard has announced where he would like to be traded to, he still has two years to run on his contract and the team has no obligation to grant him his wish and trade him away. He's owed about $39 million over the two guaranteed years remaining on his deal with the Cavaliers.

If Cleveland does decide to trade him away though, they'll be looking for a lot in return for him. ESPN's Zach Lowe has said the team is looking for a blue-chip young stud, future draft picks, and a veteran or two in exchange for Irving so that they can put together a team alongside LeBron James that can compete.

The team doesn't have to trade Irving away, but reports have suggested they believe it will eventually happen. It looks as though as well the team has already signed his replacement in the form of Derrick Rose. The former New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls star signed a one-year, $2.1 million deal earlier this week.

If the reports about the Timberwolves and Suns being strong candidates for Irving are true, then the most likely players to be involved in the trade are small forward Andrew Wiggins and point guard Eric Bledsoe respectively.

Both would make good additions to the Cavaliers, as they both have good averages, as last season, Wiggins averaged 23.6 points, four rebounds, 2.3 assists, and a steal over 82 games, while Bledsoe averaged 21.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.4 steals.
