Liverpool are heading off on their second pre-season tour of the summer just days after returning from Asia. This time, Jurgen Klopp will take his squad to Germany as they compete in the Audi Cup - after playing Hertha Berlin in a special friendly to mark both clubs' 125th anniversaries. The Reds will face Bayern Munich and then either Atletico Madrid or Napoli in two consecutive days as the start of the Premier League season edges ever closer.Of course, playing two matches in two days means Klopp will have to fully utilise his 30-man squad. On the plane to Germany is new signing Andrew Robertson as well as Sadio Mane, Emre Can and Nathaniel Clyne - all of whom haven’t played a minute of pre-season yet.

But many Liverpool fans were more looking at who wasn’t on the list.

Of course, many of them jokingly claimed that they had missed out transfer targets Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita from the list. Klopp will no doubt continue negotiations for the pair whilst in Germany.

Who is missing?

But there were a few names that are current Liverpool players that were notable in their absence.

Youngster Sheyi Ojo was left out with his reportedly closing in on a loan move to Aston Villa, while Lazar Markovic will also remain in Liverpool with his future in doubt.

While Liverpool supporters aren’t too concerned about Markovic being left out, they’re not happy about another player not being named in the tour to Germany.

That man is, of course, Mamadou Sakho.

Klopp allowed the Frenchman to join Crystal Palace on loan for the second half of last season, where he impressed massively.

And there was hope that Klopp would give him a second chance after their falling-out 12 months ago - especially with Sakho uploading numerous images and videos to his social media from pre-season this summer.

But after this latest blow to his Liverpool career, Kopites are gutted to learn that there is simply no future for him at the club with this surely the final nail in the coffin.

Sakho has been recovering from a knee injury he sustained at Palace but after making great progress in training, he was ready to be selected for the trip to Germany.

However, Klopp has decided to leave him at Melwood along with the other players not fortunate to be selected.

Liverpool fans react to Sakho's absence

Check out their reaction:

Sakho has been linked with a permanent move to Palace but it seems the Eagles are reluctant to pay the £18 million asking price for him.

With Liverpool failing in their bid to sign Van Dijk and facing another season with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as their centre-back pairing, surely Klopp should consider giving Sakho another chance.

Apparently not.
