After missing out on Romelu Lukaku, the onus was on Chelsea to dive into the transfer market and sign a top-class striker.

The Belgian made the move to bitter rivals Manchester United for around £75m but just a few weeks later, Antonio Conte made his move and acquired Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata for an initial fee of £58m.

On the face of it, the Spanish international appears an excellent buy and should fill the void left by Diego Costa, who looks all but certain to depart Stamford Bridge this summer.

Michy Batshuayi has also been in great form in pre-season and should act as an excellent backup to Morata for the upcoming season.

In the end, Conte's striking woes have been fixed but it appears that there is one man in the Premier League who the Italian would have signed over his new Spanish hitman.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the player that the Chelsea boss would have loved to have added to his star-studded team but said that last season's Golden Boot winner would cost north of £100m.

Judging by Lukaku's inflated fee, Conte is certainly not wrong about the price needed to snatch the Englishman away from north London.

Speaking in Singapore, the Italian coach was full of praise for both Kane and Spurs, saying, per Telegraph: “Tottenham is a really good squad if they are able to keep all the players of their squad. For me, Kane, now, is one of the best strikers in the world.

“If I had to buy one striker I would go to Kane. He is a complete striker. He is strong physically, with the ball, without the ball, he fights and he’s strong in the air and acrobatic on the right and the left. He’s a complete player. He’s one of the top strikers in the world.

“If you go to buy Kane now it would be at least £100m. At least. For me, if I see this price for a striker I know for sure he’s a big striker.

“Dele Alli is another top player, young. Tottenham is a really good team if they are able to keep the same squad as last season.”
