The Citizens pulled off the sensational result in front of no less than 93,000 spectators in Los Angeles’ Memorial Coliseum. Most fans were sporting the white of Real but were left shell-shocked early in the second half.

Nicolas Otamendi smashed City into the lead after shady goalkeeping from Kiko Casilla before Raheem Sterling doubled the advantage just seven minutes later.

John Stones piled in on the action with a delightful right-footed finish in the 67th minute. Then, 17-year-old Brahim Diaz rounded off the City barrage with a stunning long-range strike after some deadly tiki-taka in the midfield.

Amongst all this, Kevin de Bruyne was the orchestrator in chief and, single handedly at times, propelled City’s attack.

It must be noted too that Zidane wasn’t fielding a noticeably understrength side. Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema both lead the attack, with Isco just behind and Luka Modric was given the green light in midfield.

However, for all the star names in their starting XI, it was young Oscar Rodriguez who stole the headlines and a slither of respectability for the Spaniards. Just take a look below:

Now as far as consolation goals go, you don’t get much better than that. The midfielder is captain of Real’s under-19 squad and strutted his stuff against the Citizens to score past the most expensive ‘keeper in English football history.

You can only see him going far with finishes like that.

Nevertheless, it ultimately came in vein and Oscar will have to produce such inspired moments more regularly to break into the first team. Especially when you consider a potential deal for Kylian Mbappe could be on the horizon.

As for City, they can at least seek reassurance that their weighty £216 million spending spree is harvesting results. Ederson, Danilo and Kyle Walker all started and did themselves no harm in coming so close to a clean sheet.

Anyway, no one was saving that hit from Oscar.
