Gareth Bale now knows where he stands with Real Madrid fans after 72% of 40,000 voters said they would sell him to Manchester United this summer.

Spanish newspaper AS asked their readers to say 'yes' or 'no' to keeping the Welshman, with almost three quarters opting for the latter.

Bale has enjoyed much success at the Bernabeu since moving from Tottenham four years ago, but injury after injury has forced him to spend a lot of time on the sidelines.

And that's become a source of frustration for Los Blancos supporters, who know what he's capable of but are still waiting for his true potential to show.

They've now made their feelings clear and were Bale to ever leave Real, reports suggest Monaco's Kylian Mbappe would be the man - or boy, rather - to replace him.

Various sources claim a £160 million fee has been agreed between Real and Monaco for the France prodigy, though it's all paper talk at this moment in time.

Zinedine Zidane has previously insisted he wants to keep Bale but hinted earlier today that he - or any one of BBC (including Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo) for that matter - could leave.

"I hope they stay, but I am not the one to decide," the French manager admitted.

United fans would welcome both Bale and Ronaldo to the Theatre of Dreams with open arms, and according to the Daily Record's Duncan Castles, Real are prepared to sell Bale this summer.

However, Mourinho will not be making a move, despite his admiration for the Welshman.

Castles claims there are two reasons for this, the first being Mourinho's reluctance to sign a player who is desperate to stay at his current club.

Bale is on the same pay scale as Ronaldo in Madrid and is widely regarded as his successor, which Mourinho believes could have a negative impact on any move to Manchester.

The second is, quite refreshingly, United's unwillingness to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in a 'hyper-inflated' market.

Mourinho has already spent over £100 million on summer recruits, and so the board don't want to exceed their budget. Instead, they believe there are players available like Bale but cheaper.

As such, one alternative could be Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic, who is the same age as Bale (28) but would cost half the price.

Inter have reportedly conceded they will sell if the price is right, too, suggesting Mourinho would be better off ending his interest in Bale and focusing elsewhere.
