WWE is about to change things up again.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is known to change his mind on a minute-to-minute basis and he is back at it again. WWE brought back the brand extension last July.

The idea came about after WWE moved SmackDown to Tuesday nights on the USA Network and made the show live. Originally, it was taped on Tuesday’s and aired either on Thursday or Friday each and every week.

However, the ratings for the show started to dip, which obviously made the USA Network unhappy and forced WWE to take actions or else it would be cancelled.

WWE officials made the move with the show but ratings were not as up as originally expected. Thus, the reason for the WWE Draft and brand extension. On the July 11 episode of Raw, Vince McMahon appointed Shane McMahon as the commissioner of SmackDown and Stephanie McMahon as the commissioner of Raw.

The following week on the July 18 episode of Raw, the commissioners introduced Mick Foley and Daniel Bryan as the general managers of Raw and SmackDown

This turned out to be a good move by the company as viewership numbers for SmackDown Live increased. The blue brand was the better show and more popular with the fans.

You could make an argument that is due to the show only being two-hours compared to Raw, which is a three-hour show.

Fast forward to earlier this year, WWE decided to have a Superstar Shakeup. It was a two-day event that took place on the April 10 and April 11 episodes of Raw and SmackDown Live. Instead of a traditional draft, Raw General Manager Kurt Angle and SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan had the "opportunity to make trades, deals and other moves that they [felt] fit.”

Dave Meltzer mentioned in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there has been talk of doing another Superstar Shakeup after next month's WWE SummerSlam PPV (pay-per-view) event.

Meltzer noted that although it might seem early for another Shakeup, there is definitely talk of making a few roster moves in the fall. There has also been talk of sending one or more Superstars from the main roster to WWE NXT.

It should be noted that the moves from the main roster to NXT would be for talents that were major stars in NXT that Vince McMahon simply is not going to push on Raw or SmackDown.

The idea is that even if they are over with fans or if they are doing nothing on the main roster then they could be more useful as top stars in NXT.
