Liverpool fans have endured a difficult summer so far.Jurgen Klopp has brought in Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, and Dominic Solanke, but there is still significant work to be done if the Reds are to compete for the title next season. They have been frustated in their pursuits of Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita. These are the kind of players needed to take the step to the next level and so far, with the exception of Salah, they just haven't been arriving. It's equally important that they keep hold of the top players they already have. However, that could prove very difficult, at least when it comes to Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has become the key man in Liverpool's attack, contributing to 20 league goals last season.Barcelona are not going to be getting the playmaker on the cheap, with Sport suggesting he'll cost €150million.And there are plenty of incentives for Coutinho to make the move. While he seems happy at Anfield and only signed a new four-year contract in March, it has to be said he's more likely to win regular silverware with the Blaugrana.

Should he go?

Linking up with international team-mate Neymar would be another pull, though it remains to be seen whether the forward will be leaving for Paris Saint-Germain.

All of these would be good reasons to leave, but Liverpool have provided a promising update on the situation.

As reported in the Daily Mail, the club have insisted that contrary to radio reports in Spain, the 25-year-old has not put in a transfer request and hasn't shown an indication that he wants to leave.

It's also been denied that Barcelona could use Croatian international Ivan Rakitic as a makeweight in the deal, though that would certainly soften the blow.

Coutinho may not be forcing a move, yet that doesn't rule out his departure.

Liverpool fans respond

Barca's sporting director Robert Fernandez has held talks with the player's representatives in London and is growing increasingly confident that an agreement will be reached.

Thanks to this latest development, though, Liverpool fans are no longer too worried:

How big a loss would Coutinho be to Liverpool? Have your say in the comments.
