It’s fair to say Red Bull Leipzig are proving extremely hard to negotiate with this summer.
Liverpool are desperate to sign Naby Keita from the Bundesliga club and are even willing to make a final bid worth as much as £70 million for the 22-year-old.
But it seems no matter how much money Liverpool are willing to throw at Leipzig, there is simply no offer that will make them change their stance.
"We will not enter into negotiations at all," the club have previously said this summer.
"A decision has been made that none of our key players will be sold and we're sticking to it."
Tough to take for Jurgen Klopp who seems extremely keen to add the Guinean international to his squad this summer.
Liverpool have been given a boost
And it’s even more frustrating if the latest report from the Mirror is anything to go by.
We haven’t heard too much about what Keita thinks of a proposed move to Anfield - although his rash tackle in training last week may have been brought on by frustration at Leipzig’s reluctance to sell him.
But it’s now being claimed that Keita has “instructed his advisors to make a concerted effort to get him out of Leipzig.”
So he now definitely wants to leave Leipzig.
Will this give Liverpool renewed hope?
If the player starts agitating for a move, surely Leipzig will start listening to his demands.
Ralf Rangnick's controversial comments
Of course, Leipzig’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick certainly didn’t do the club any favours this week with his questionable comments about Keita’s entourage.
“The boys themselves are not the problem here. It is their surroundings,” Rangick said on Tuesday.
“A whole village in Guinea or somebody from their entourage tells the players why they must do something right away. I can’t blame the players.”
He then tried to explain his remark but only made matters worse for himself.
“Behind many players with an African background, and I’ve met a lot of them, there is a clan and sometimes a whole village, that lives from the help of one football player. And it’s the case that there are people behind Naby, that demand his transfer," he said.
Rangnick added: “Believe me, my knowledge in geography are good enough, to differentiate between Guinea and Africa.”
Whether Rangnick’s words are the reason that Keita has finally decided he wants to leave Leipzig is unknown but one thing is for sure, there’s a glimmer of hope for Liverpool.
