Paul Pogba is destined to become an agent once his playing days are over.

Manchester United fans hoped the £89 million midfielder could convince Antoine Griezmann to join the Red Devils and although he was unsuccessful on that mission, he played a crucial part in Romelu Lukaku’s switch from Everton.

Indeed, the Frenchman would drive past Old Trafford after dinner to offer Lukaku a tantalising glimpse of the stadium he could be playing at.

It’s quite a clever ploy. Clubs are regularly accused of tapping up players if they attempt to negotiate without the parent club’s consent, so why not just let the players hold the talks themselves?

It’s an accusation that has been aimed the way of Paris Saint-Germain defender Dani Alves, who has apparently tried to persuade Neymar to join him in France.

Neymar has been the subject of a €220m bid from PSG and, depending on who you believe, could actually sign for the Ligue 1 club.

L’Equipe claim the Barcelona forward has agreed a five-year deal with the Parisiens and ESPN believe Neymar won’t fly back to Barcelona with his teammates after Saturday’s match against Real Madrid in Miami.

Alves reacts to claims

Neymar is yet to confirm where his future lies but Alves has taken to Twitter to declare he’s played no part in his compatriot’s decision.

In response to a report claiming he’d attempted to persuade Neymar to sign for PSG, the right-back wrote: “Lies, I don’t have to convince him about anything. When I talk to Ney, the last thing we talk about is football. ‘I am happy if he is’”.

Neymar probably doesn’t need Alves to convince him to leave Barça. The huge wages on offer at PSG - ESPN claim he’s been offered €30m-per-year after taxes - will be enough to do that.

Rakitic: 'We want him to stay'

The forward’s teammate, Ivan Rakitic, says Barcelona’s players will respect whatever decision he makes.

"It's a really difficult decision and we all understand,” the Croatian said.

"We want him to stay and there's not much more to say. We will understand [his decision] in any case. I hope he sees things the same way as us.

“He already knows our opinion. He's an important part of the dressing room, one of the family and we all want him to stay."
