British professional boxer Kell Brook is still undergoing treatment for the broken eye socket he sustained during his fight against Errol Spence Jr in May.

Brook had a successful surgery last month and upon consultations with doctors it was revealed that he would be out of action until he fully recovers from the injury.

The subject of his comeback remains a hot topic of discussion among the boxing fraternity after 'The Special One' lost back-to-back bouts, having found success in his previous 36 fights.

Speaking on the issue of his return, Sky Sports quoted the 31-year-old saying: “As you've seen in my last two fights, I want to fight the best.

“I like the ones where not many people give me a chance, ones that excite and ignite the fans, so of course, Cotto, (Saul) Alvarez and even (Gennady) Golovkin again are all ones I'd like to jump in with."

Despite not being at the winning corner in his last two fights, Brook is hopeful he can still the very best around and sees a potential clash with Cotto before the end of the year as an exciting prospect.

He added: “I want to be in a huge fight like the last two. It depends if he (Cotto) fancies the job. We know he's a warrior but it depends what's in his sights and how he wants to end his career.

“If I was him I'd want to fight someone like me because our styles would gel and it would be a fantastic fight for the fans. That is the way I'd go and that's the fight I'd want. But of course, I don't speak on behalf of Miguel Cotto.

“I am in that elite category, the highest in boxing. I want to be in a 12-round fight, in a sell-out arena, with me topping the bill.”

Cotto, a five-time former world champion, will be in action on August 26 at the StubHub Centre in California to compete for the vacant WBO light middleweight title against Yoshihiro Kamegai.

Meanwhile, Brook has confirmed that he will return to the 154lbs category once he fully recovers from his eye injury.

Currently holidaying with the family, Brook is still some time away before being allowed to properly return to the gym.

“I have been back in the gym, but only for a little spell because I just wasn't ready.

“To have those two, tough losses on the bounce, I am not in a rush to get back to the gym, to be honest.

“I have put the working in over the years and have had those two losses and eye injuries to I want to make sure I am healed properly and have got the eye of the tiger again.

“I need to be firing on all cylinders, not half-hearted. I want to make sure I am ready to go back.”
