The transfer window has gone absolutely mad this summer.

It’s hard to look anywhere but in the direction of Neymar as means of justifying that statement. The Brazilian has been subject to a transfer saga that few expected and now few can believe.

That’s because Paris Saint-Germain are having to line up an eye-watering £196 million to activate the 25-year-old’s release clause and ply him from Barcelona.

While reports first emanated rather shiftily from Brazilian outlets, the tangibility of the move is picking up traction by the day. L’Equipe are even reporting that Neymar has agreed a five-year deal in principal with the French side.

Moreover, Neymar was seen storming out of Barcelona training on Friday – adding further substance to the reports.

All that considered, rather astonishingly, it’s looking likely that the 25-year-old will move to Ligue 1 for more than double the current transfer world record. The deal would come after 105 goals in 186 appearances at the Nou Camp.

The Brazilian would leave huge boots to fill at the Catalan club but the Spaniards could at least take salvation in the gargantuan transfer fee they would receive. It begs the question as to who Barcelona will turn to as means of replacing him.

While the small matters of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi would still adorn their attack, the club must go all out to bridge the gap that emerged between them and Real Madrid last season.

And what better way to address that issue than by getting one over Real before the season has even started?

According to Sport, Barcelona are eyeing Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe as the man to replace the want-away Neymar. This is in spite of the fact the Frenchman, as per Marca, has agreed a deal with their El Clasico rivals.

The Catalans are due to hold talks with Mbappe’s representatives imminently.

Of course, the asking price of £160 million would become a comparative formality for Barcelona if Neymar is sold. This is not the case with Los Blancos who are reportedly flirting with idea of shedding Gareth Bale to raise funds.

Barcelona might not have a viable alternative, either. Liverpool are stringently opposing a deal for Philippe Coutinho and have set an asking price of £134 million to perplex potential suitors.

Meanwhile, a deal for Eden Hazard is believed to be out of the question with Antonio Conte rebuffing any chance of an agreement.

Consequently, Barcelona could pile all their resources into a deal for Mbappe and they have all the currency and allure to make it happen. Real and now Barca, the Frenchman is spoilt for choice.
