After signing a new two-year contract last season, the onus was on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to make some star acquisitions in the summer transfer market.

The Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League, the first time they missed out on Champions League football under the Frenchman's guidance, a clear sign that a squad overhaul was needed.

So far, Wenger has brought in some stellar signings with Bosnian full-back Sead Kolasinac arriving on a free from Schalke and serial goal scorer Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

But, most fans who face reality know that the north London outfit require a few new faces if they are to challenge the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Midfield is the area most in need of renovation, with the likes of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey all prone to long-term injuries, leaving the department lacking in options during the season.

Wenger is reportedly keen on Ligue 1 pair Thomas Lemar and Jean Michael Seri but the manager may turn to Serie A in order to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

Highly-rated Udinese midfielder Jakub Jankto has been linked with a move to the Gunners with his agent, Beppe Riso, announcing that the Czech Republic starlet is keen on a move to England.

“Arsenal like him, he’s a lover of English football, and he’s also liked by Juve, Inter and other teams,” Riso told Sportitalia, per Goal.

“Still, he’s young, he’s 21 years old, he must be calm and he’s only thinking about Udinese.

“After that, we’ll see. Do I see him more in the Premier League than other Leagues? Yes.”

Jankto was one of the stars for Udinese last season, scoring five goals and assisting four more in 29 Serie A games from central midfield.

In Wenger's new 3-4-3 formation, the Czech international would be ideal alongside the more pragmatic Granit Xhaka, should Ramsey pick up an injury.

Strength in depth is the key to winning major honours and Arsenal would be wise to add a talented young prospect to comply with the winning formula.
