Crewe have signed Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Steve Phillips on a two-month loan deal, with a view to a permanent move in January.

Alex have struggled in that position this season, with on-loan keeper David Button, who has been recalled by Tottenham for a second time, Adam Legzdins, Steve Collis and Adam Bogdan, who was on loan from Bolton, all appearing between the posts for the League Two club.

Crewe have also recently added Frenchman Bertrand Bossu to their ranks on a short-term contract.

The Railwaymen had failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous 11 matches before the 4-0 win at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Phillips, whose two-month loan spell at Shrewsbury ended at the weekend, is one of few players to have played for both Bristol clubs, having started his career with City before moving to the Memorial Stadium in 2006.

He has made over 400 league appearances and helped Rovers win promotion to League One via the playoffs in 2007.
