It was revealed on Friday that Chelsea had made a late bid to sign Renato Sanches from Bayern Munich.

Antonio Conte made an enquiry for the Portuguese midfielder during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Singapore, discussing the possibility of a season-long loan move with Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti after their sides met in the International Champions Cup this week.

However, Chelsea aren’t the only top European outfit hoping to land Sanches before the start of the 2017-18 campaign. AC Milan are in pole position for the 19-year-old while there is also ‘interest’ from Manchester United.

Right now, though, it appears to be a two-horse race between Milan and Chelsea.

But which of the three interested clubs does Sanches hope to join this summer?

The club Sanches wants to join

Well, according to Sky Sports’ reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the teenager would prefer to join Milan.

Perhaps he doesn’t feel his talents would be suited to the Premier League.

"Let's go to Chelsea and their interest in the Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches," Sheth said on Sky Sports News, per the Express. "The Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that Antonio Conte asked Carlo Ancelotti about the player.

"Rummenigge also said Sanches would not be sold but they would consider a loan.

"AC Milan remain favourites, they are Sanches' preferred destination and the Italian club have been negotiating for the past month."

Milan still need to fend off Chelsea

Indeed, it was reported earlier this week by the French publication L’Equipe that Sanches would be joining Milan in a deal worth €40 million.

News of Chelsea’s interest had the potential to turn the player’s head, but it seems his focus is still very much on becoming the Rossoneri’s latest star signing.

Milan have raised eyebrows with their activity in this summer’s transfer market.

The Italian giants have made a series of excellent purchases over recent weeks, most notably the acquisition of Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus.

It seems the San Siro will be Sanches’ next destination if he gets his way, although Chelsea certainly won’t give up without a fight.
