Could this be the moment where the boxing credentials of Conor McGregor are taken seriously?

In preparation for the Irishman's blockbuster fight against the unbeaten Floyd Mayweather in late August, it has been revealed via his official Instagram account that McGregor sent one of his sparring partners to the canvas with a flurry of punches.

The UFC champion shared a number of photos of the moment which shows him menacingly going in for more, but the referee is on the spot and quickly separates him from his opponent.

Boxing is a mental game just as much as a physical one, and McGregor is a very shrewd operator.

By releasing the photos he is aiming to put a some doubt into the mind of Mayweather where he is double guessing himself.

All the talk has been that this will be a walk in the park for the man affectionately known as 'money' and that it was worth the risk to come out of retirement for his 50th bout and further build on his legacy.

Mayweather is widely seen as one of the greatest exponents of defensive skills in the history of the sport and getting past his guard is a challenge in itself.

While the Irishman does not have the boxing experience, he hasn't achieved what he has in UFC without having a clear plan of attack.

You can see his Instagram post below, but you'll quickly realise why some fans are rather confused about the photos.

As you can see, McGregor doesn't seem to stop after his opponent has hit the canvas. That's simply not allowed in a boxing ring.

Many people were quick to point that out, suggesting McGregor still has no idea on the rules of boxing.

One user joked: "Looks like boxing to me", whilst another said: "Wtf...That ain't f*****g boxing brah...lmao"

Others simply were questioning whether Notorious knows what a boxing match is and the difference between one and a UFC fight.

While plenty of things are against the Irishman in the fight, two things stand out as strengths. His overall punching power, and having youth on his side as McGregor is 11 years Mayweather's junior.

In a war of attrition and the longer a fight goes, the younger fresher legs certainly would come into play as Anthony Joshua showed against Wladimir Klitschko.

While the travelling media roadshow appealed to some, it is clear that both men are strictly in fight mode as we hit the one month mark of the fight taking place in Las Vegas.

The excitement, intrigue, and mind games are only going to build from this moment on.
