This summer's transfer window has been one of the biggest in recent history with a number of clubs spending huge amounts of money.

Manchester United currently hold the record of the most expensive transfer so far after signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton for £75 million.

Reigning champions Chelsea are not far behind after spending £58 million on Alvaro Morata.

Just behind them are Arsenal. The Gunners smashed their club record fee and landed Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a fee of around £53 million.

But if rumours are to be believed, it won't be the English clubs breaking more transfer records.

Two big players are apparently close to moving around Europe, with one leaving Spain and another arriving.

Barcelona's Neymar has been linked with a huge €222 million move to Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to get back to the top of Ligue 1 after a disappointing campaign in 2016/17.

The team that beat them to their domestic title was AS Monaco. And if rumours are to be believed, they could be about to lose their star man for another outrageous fee.

Kylian Mbappe is being monitored by Real Madrid and this weekend captain Sergio Ramos has urged the club to spend over £160 million to land the Frenchman.

These two rumours alone show just how crazy the transfer window can get, especially with super rich clubs able to spend this kind of money.

Back in January, the threat of huge deals came from outside Europe. Clubs in the Chinese Super League (CSL) were setting their sights on some of Europe's top stars.

Diego Costa was just one of the players apparently tempted by a move to Asia midway through last season, but in the end, he decided to stay with Chelsea and won the Premier League.

A few months later, it was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang linked with a move from Borussia Dortmund, but he also ultimately decided against it.

Instead, the likes of Oscar, Hulk and Alexandre Pato remain the biggest names in the league.

And according to Shanghai SIPG director Mads Davidsen, there's a few players that aren't welcome in the division.

Recently, Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have been linked with moves to China, but Davidsen has said he won't sign them for one reason.

Because they're too old.

"It’s a misconception that makes me really angry when players in Europe believe they can freely choose the time to move to China," he told BILD, as per Goal

“If Ribery had an offer two or three years ago from China then that was his chance, but an ambitious Chinese team like Shanghai SIPG wouldn’t sign him or Robben now."

The Shanghai director also said that they'd much rather sign players in their prime and gave a couple of examples.

“Why should a Chinese club sign a 33 or 34-year-old when they can get 27-year-old stars like Axel Witsel or Alex Teixeira, or Oscar at 25?”

He's got a point. There's no doubt that Bayern's two stars are coming to the twilight of their careers and it's good to see that the CSL won't become a league that buys players past their prime.
