Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was left reeling after Dani Alves opted to move to Paris Saint-Germain instead of enjoying a reunion with him, but at the Etihad Stadium.Guardiola and Alves won just about everything there was to win during their time with Barcelona, but after going their separate ways, it seemed as if following a one-year spell with Juventus Alves would head to play under him once again. And yet, Alves opted to head to the French capital, saying: "Believe me, I am coming to Paris to win."In recent years, I have been able to gauge the incredible growth of this club, which has become a European football powerhouse. It's very exciting to now be part of this great project."The Brazilian took to the pitch for his new club for the first time against Monaco on Saturday evening in the Trophee des Champions Final and he made an immediate impact.Standing over a free-kick some 35 yards away from goal, Alves proceeded to drill the ball into the top left-hand corner to level the scores against the French champions.PSG may be interested in Neymar, but this free-kick was something else. Check it out below:

Speaking of turning down City, Alves says he isn't sure if Guardiola totally understands his decision yet. However, their respect remains.

“Well, actually, it was me who did most of the talking. I explained the reasons behind my decision to him,” Alves told L'Equipe, whose decision leaves City in the lurch after releasing Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna last month.

“After everything we have done together, we have a very cordial relationship, respectful.

“It is this respect that may mean these things can be understood. Right now, I do not know if he understands my choice.”

The Parisians are in the process of trying to lure Neymar to the club and are said to be willing to meet his release clause of €222 million.

Should they do that, one has to imagine that this great project Alves speaks of will finally be realised.
