You get the impression that the transfer window is about to erupt.

At the centre of it, of course, is Neymar’s proposed €222 million move to Paris Saint-Germain.

If the Brazilian moves to PSG for a world-record fee, there is set to be a significant knock-on effect.

Neymar’s departure means Barcelona will have plenty of money to spend on a replacement.

And it’s looking more and more likely that Neymar’s replacement will be fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho.

Barca have already had bids rejected for the Liverpool star but are refusing to give up despite Liverpool’s instance that he’s not for sale.

Coutinho not for sale

"If I say he is not for selling, he is not for selling," Jurgen Klopp declared. "There is nothing else to say. It’s a club decision, it’s my decision. That’s how it is.

"I can say 20 times, he is not for sale. If you ask the other question the other way and I say, there has been no assurance, you make the story the other way. There is no story for me. Whatever happens from their side, I say he is not for sale. The answer is — not for sale."

What Coutinho has told Liverpool

However, this is Barcelona we’re talking about and Coutinho is no doubt interested in playing alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez on a weekly basis.

In fact, according to Spanish outlet Sport, Coutinho is more than interested.

Their latest report makes for very grim reading for Liverpool fans.

It begins with: “Philippe Coutinho will become Barça's new player this summer almost in all probability.”

Ok, that’s not a great start.

They go on to reveal that Coutinho has made his final decision on his future - and has informed Liverpool what he wants to do.

“Coutinho has already expressed to Liverpool his desire to leave and the English club has already been open to listen to Barca,” they write.

Oh dear.

They also claim that negotiations are “very advanced” with Coutinho verbally accepting contractual terms. All that is left is for Barcelona to convince Liverpool to sell and for the two clubs to agree a price - which is likely to be around £100 million.

One thing hasn’t changed, though. Liverpool are still reluctant to sell no matter what Coutinho’s decision is.

This transfer saga is set to rumble on until the end of the transfer window.
