Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has reassured fans that highly-rated youngster Luke Rooney will not be leaving the club, despite admitting contract talks with the player had broken down.
Rooney has impressed since his promotion from the youth team at the beginning of the season and his representatives had begun to discuss a new long-term deal with the club.
Stimson told the Kent Messenger: "We don't need to panic because the boy is under contract with us this season and next. We have an option on him and we'll obviously take it. He can't go anywhere."
Stimson added: "At the moment his contract has been pulled back and we've stopped negotiations. Luke is going to get on with his football and concentrate like he always does. We will probably readdress it in the new year.
