The Jon Jones chapter of Daniel Cormier’s career is now officially in the books, after the former light heavyweight champion was unable to avenge his sole career loss in the main event of UFC 214.

All of the trash talk had finally come to an end when the two stood face to face inside of the Octagon, and despite a back forth start to the fight, it was Bones who landed a vicious left kick which effectively ended DC’s night, and his reign as champion.

Jones’ kick sent Cormier stumbling back, trying to stay out of range and after getting hit with one of many leg kicks, he fell to the canvas with referee John McCarthy waving off the fight as a knockout after some vicious ground and pound.

Jones was full of praise for Cormier after his win, effectively squashing their beef after calling him a role model, a champion outside of the ring and aspiring to be like him.

One thing fans weren’t too pleased about, though, was that commentator Joe Rogan decided to interview Cormier, who was in tears and was reportedly concussed and was still interviewed – but Rogan has since apologised for that.

Now that he’s had some time to reflect, Cormier has finally broken his silence on Instagram and has congratulated Jones on his win, and has reassured fans that they’ll see him again soon – perhaps inside of the Octagon rather than in the commentary booth.

DC'S STATEMENT

As you can see below, he posted: “First off, thank you all for the kind words. I have felt the support.

“Congratulations to Jon Jones and his team. They did a phenomenal job and got the victory.

“Also, to Big John McCarthy, I would like to apologise for acting up with you. I am thankful for the time you gave me to try and defend myself and stay in the fight. You are the best in the business for a reason.

“I also wanna thank my team and my coaches. I love you all from the bottom of my heart. Your time and energy is greatly appreciated. You guys did a wonderful job, I was ready. It's a fist fight and things happen.

"Dana White and the @ufc, thank you for being the premiere organisation in all of MMA. Again, congrats to Team Jones and JacksonWink. Love you all. I'll see you soon. DC.”

It sounds like Cormier is recovering well after his loss, and now fans will be wondering how he’ll bounce back from this loss with Jones now rumoured to battle the likes of Volkan Oezdemir, or even Brock Lesnar.
