It’s always difficult to predict the outcome of a Premier League season but the upcoming campaign is even more tough to forecast.

Chelsea are the reigning champions but they have just 17 senior players following the departure of Nemanja Matic.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Manchester City have both improved their squads by spending huge sums of money in the transfer window.

Man City are the early favourites with the bookmakers to claim the 2017-18 title but there must be a lingering concern over whether Pep Guardiola’s new signings will take time to gel.

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t signed a single player this summer but they can’t be ruled out, while Liverpool have added Mohamed Salah and Arsenal have so far managed to keep Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil at the club.

So it promises to be an enthralling battle at the top of table.

Giggs is backing Man City

Ryan Giggs, who won 13 Premier league titles with Man United, believes the Red Devil’s neighbours are the team to beat this season.

Giggs believes Man City have got “scary” options in attack and raised doubts about Chelsea and Tottenham’s ability to challenge.

“I think Manchester City are the team to beat,” Giggs told Sky Sports, per the Mirror.

“I looked at them towards the end of last season and the forward players they've got is scary, with Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling.

“What they needed to get right was their defence and it will be interesting to see how Ederson settles in, because you don't win the Premier League with an average goalkeeper.

“They've obviously invested heavily on full-backs but the question is still whether Vincent Kompany can stay fit because his influence and experience are key for them."

Giggs has doubts over Chelsea

Chelsea didn’t have to worry about European football last season and Giggs believes Antonio Conte to struggle to juggle the Champions League with his attempts to retain the title.

“You can't ignore Chelsea because of their quality, but have they got the squad to balance defending the Premier League and European football? I'm not sure,” he added.

“Tottenham have a really exciting squad and a great manager in Mauricio Pochettino, but everybody is asking whether they can continue to match sides without signings.”

No mention of Man United? Interesting, Giggsy.
