It seems a bit strange now but Liverpool’s £12 million signing of Alberto Moreno back in August 2014 was seen as a real coup by the Reds at the time. The Spanish left-back was excellent in his third and final season with Sevilla and Real Madrid were expected to bring him to the Bernabeu. However, it was Liverpool who eventually won the race for Moreno’s signature, with Brendan Rodgers particularly keen to secure the 22-year-old’s services.Three seasons on and Moreno’s career hasn’t panned out in the manner anybody either would have expected or hoped for. He’s become a much-maligned figure at Anfield and has been heavily criticised for his lack of defensive nous by fans, former players and pundits alike on numerous occasions.

Moreno has been brutally criticised at Liverpool

Ex-Red Jamie Carragher has been particularly vocal in his criticism of Moreno over the past couple of years.

Following Liverpool’s defeat against Sevilla in the 2016 Europa League final, Carragher memorably tweeted: "Jurgen, transfer committee, anyone sign a f****** left-back."

Many Liverpool supporters echoed the same sentiment that night.

However, over a year later and Moreno remains a Liverpool player.

Klopp has now finally signed a new left-back - bringing in Andrew Robertson from Hull City in a deal worth £10 million - but Moreno has given his manager some food for thought this evening.

Moreno bosses it against Bayern Munich

Liverpool went head-to-head against the mighty Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena and although it was Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah who scored the first-half goals, Moreno was arguably the standout performer.

The defender, who produced the assist for Salah’s goal, was magnificent on the left-hand side of the pitch.

He was so good, in fact, that he is even the top trend in the United Kingdom at the time of writing.
