Freddy Adu was the name on everybody's lips when he first appeared for DC United in 2004.At 13-years-old, the American was called everything from the poster boy of the MLS to the next Pele.A $1million contract with Nike followed and it seemed inevitable that the forward would go onto big things.Sadly, the glittering career that many predicted he would enjoy never materialised. In fact, in the last 13 years, he's appeared for 13 different teams, from Benfica and Monaco to the more obscure realms of Çaykur Rizespor and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The 28-year-old, who has made 17 appearances for the United States national team, is currently without a club having failed to impress on trial with Portland Timbers earlier this year. So, where is he going to end up next?It looked as if he had finally convinced newly-promoted Polish side Sandecja Nowy Sacz to take a punt on him - possibly not the most glamorous outfit in the world, but at this stage of his career, Adu just needs to be playing football.

Adu hasn't been welcomed at Sandecja

Sandecja announced on their Facebook page that they had offered him a trial - much to the disdain of their manager Radoslaw Mroczkowski.

Most people in football would love to see Adu catch a break, but Mroczkowski doesn't feel the same.

"This is not my idea, so let's face it, the man who wants to have Frank [sic] Adu on the team, I do not accept this, it was not consulted with me," he said, per the Daily Mail.

"I will not test it, as someone else wants, and they can do it. In my opinion, the club is so ridiculous. Instead of building a team in a sensible way, we are looking for old vacuum cleaners."

Absolutely brutal, especially as he couldn't even get his first name right.

Adu responds

It's fair to say Adu never had a chance with the club and the move has now fallen through.

In light of the developments, he has posted a series of tweets. Nobody can doubt his passion after reading through these:

While this latest opportunity hasn't worked out, it sounds like he's learned some valuable lessons and hopefully, that will stand him in good stead as he searches for his next club.
