There were many people - mostly Barcelona fans - they simply didn’t believe Neymar would join Paris Saint-Germain despite the numerous reports.

However, after the Brazilian was excused from Barca training on Wednesday to negotiate a deal with PSG, even the most disbelieving supporters have to accept that they could be about to lose Neymar.

An official statement on the club’s website read: ”Before the morning session began, Neymar Jr. informed those present of his wish to leave the Club and was therefore given permission to miss training and resolve his future."

Of course, there are still plenty of hurdles to jump over before the Ligue 1 can complete the €222 million deal but it seems it’s only a matter of time.

One of the reasons for Neymar’s move is thought to be so he could escape Lionel Messi’s shadow as he bids to win the Ballon d’Or.

But what does Messi think of this?

Well, he’s taken to Instagram as Neymar edges closer to becoming the world’s most expensive footballer.

He’s posted an emotional video of images of the two players with a caption that translates to: “It was an enormous pleasure to have shared all these years with you friend @neymarjr I wish you luck in this new stage of your life. See you tomorrow.”

Messi says goodbye to Neymar

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

La Liga plan to complain

Despite Neymar closing in on a world-record move, La Liga president Javier Tebas will do all he can to block the deal.

“The complaint is ready and will be presented to UEFA, the European Union, and the Swiss Courts, those are the tribunals that have power,” Tebas said of PSG’s move for Neymar.

"If UEFA don’t react, we will present the claim immediately. We haven’t done it yet because we thought that UEFA were going to take measures to ensure that Financial Fair Play (FFP) is respected, and this ‘financial doping’ is avoided.

“No. We will not accept that money from a club like PSG that, without belonging to LaLiga, want to embrace the rights of our organisation.”

But it seems Messi isn’t willing to wait for official confirmation to say his goodbyes to Neymar.
