Pep Guardiola's decision to ditch Joe Hart at the start of last season has haunted him ever since. The goalkeeper endured a difficult Euro 2016 with England, but he looked all set to continue as Manchester City's number one until the Catalan formally took over. With the arrival of Claudio Bravo from Barcelona, it quickly became clear that there was no place for Hart at the Etihad. In hindsight, loaning the 30-year-old out to Torino was a very poor decision indeed. While his spell in Italy wasn't faultless, Bravo's first season in the Premier League was an absolute disaster. The Chilean made a number of high-profile mistakes and at one point, he had the worst save ratio in the top flight.Under those circumstances, Guardiola might have restored Hart, but the damage to the pair's relationship was already done. Cue this summer's signing of Eduardo, who at nearly £35million broke a world record for a goalkeeper's transfer fee.Since joining West Ham on loan, Hart has, therefore, had a point to prove. The stopper is back in English football and is linking up with an ambitious outfit who have also added Pablo Zabaleta, Javier Hernandez, and Marko Arnautovic to their ranks this summer. So, who better to face in pre-season than his parent club, City? The Hammers received a complete pasting on the three occasions they met City last season, losing 3-1 and 4-0 in the league, and 5-0 in the FA Cup.However, with a new man now between the sticks, they didn't fare much better in the friendly, shipping another few goals as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat.

Hart tries playing out from the back

All eyes were on Hart to see how he fared. Not only did he fail to keep City's attack at bay, he proved Guardiola right by exhibiting the exact reason he got rid of him in the first place.

It's well-known Guardiola prefers goalkeepers who can play out from the back, so it's safe to say he won't have too many regrets after watching his former employee this afternoon:

Guardiola will also have been delighted to see a starring performance from new boy Danilo, as he is being vindicated in his decision to splash out on the former Real Madrid full-back.

For Hart, this was a frustrating missed opportunity and he needs some good performances in the coming season to truly convince his old manager that he's got it wrong.

Will Hart be a success at West Ham? Have your say in the comments.
