Paulie Malignaggi stunned the world of boxing on Friday by sensationally walking out of Conor McGregor’s training camp, just weeks before the Irishman faces Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas.Malignaggi, who retired in May, was left fuming after sparring photos were leaked online. One showed the two-time world champion flat on the canvas with McGregor stood over him, while the other showed the American’s face looking badly marked up after being caught by the UFC superstar.Malignaggi subsequently went off on a Twitter rant, in which he claimed: “I actually beat [McGregor’s] ass, 24 hrsoff a flight 2 lol, which is why Im saying post the vid, I try not 2 be petty but seems it’s late 4 that now.”He also tweeted: “Its not nice 2 paint a pic that isn’t true, this was a pushdown in sparring, post the whole video rounds 1 through 12 UNEDITED.”The American then released a lengthy statement in which he explained his reasons for quitting McGregor’s training camp.

Malignaggi seems adamant that the unedited video would tell a very different story than that of the two leaked photos.

Malignaggi: McGregor's biggest problem v Mayweather

And on Showtimes' latest video, the American explained the one major problem that McGregor faces against Mayweather later this month.

“At first glance you look at this guy and you think: ‘this guy doesn’t know what he’s doing. I mean, what is he doing?’" Malignaggi said.

“But when you get in the ring with him, you start to set traps for him and realise he’s setting them back for you.

"So he does know what he’s doing, he just has to work [on it] because if you set the same trap over and over again, and you’ve only got a handful of traps, Floyd will see them one too many times and it will stop working. That’s the thing to work on”

McGregor: Malignaggi got his ass whooped

The camera then cuts to McGregor who says: “He stayed in there, got to give him respect for that, but that was it. He came, got his ass whooped, and that’s it.”

Hmm. Do we really believe McGregor here?

The 29-year-old was never going to admit he’d been outclassed by Malignaggi - it wouldn’t exactly do much for sales of the Mayweather fight, would it? - and the fact we’re unlikely to ever see footage of their sparring sessions means it’s his word against Paulie’s.
