It’s being billed by some as one of the greatest fights of our time, just like the Anthony Joshua versus Wladimir Klitschko bout earlier this year, whilst others are calling it a complete mismatch of rookie and untested debutant Conor McGregor and retired and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The UFC fighter might have youth on his side, but Mayweather has experience in the ring and an undefeated record behind him.

The pre-fight conferences have been interesting, with both men slinging insults at the other, but at the end of the day, the real talking will be done inside the ring.

On multiple occasions, we’ve seen evidence of McGregor in training and some interesting stories have been coming out about the regime the Irishman is on.

In one story, allegations were made that McGregor’s sparring videos had been altered to show less than impressive footage to lure Mayweather into a false sense of security. However, these have been rubbished by the McGregor camp.

Recently, McGregor was also believed to have knocked his sparring partner Pauli Malignaggi down to the mat, although the former denies this ever happened and has since quit the Irishman’s training camp.

It’s worth noting Malignaggi once threatened to “knock McGregor’s beard off” if the two were ever to meet in the ring.

It seems McGregor got the better of him, if you are to believe Notorious and his camp.

Keeping on theme, the latest from the McGregor camp relates to a series of photographs which show the Irishman using the latest sports technology – namely, an underwater treadmill.

Hydrotherapy, which is the technology’s official name, has generally been used on sports stars recovering from injury, as it’s easier on the joints and muscle than a traditional open-air treadmill.

His team stand poolside offering advice and encouragement throughout this regime and McGregor seems determined in the photos as he looks ahead at a screen with a steely gaze.

But, is this really helping McGregor with the skills he’ll need for his big fight?

Many will be sceptical, believing that punch bags and ring sparring is the best work out for McGregor, but Mike McHugh of HydroWorx believes this regime will help Conor McGregor.

You can watch McGregor in training below.

“The underwater treadmill gives McGregor the ability to move in all directions just as he would in a competitive situation.”

The nature of the workout means McGregor will have a hard cardio session with less muscle or joint pains as a result.

“He could choose to run at a moderate pace to flush his system and speed recovery so his muscles are fresh and ready to go the next day,” McHugh added.

HydroWorx are now collaborating with a series of sports and its biggest names, including the Premier League, NFL, and the NBA.

The water-running workout has become popular with a range of athletes and looks to be the future for sports stars' training.
