There is no doubt that Antonio Conte worked wonders with Chelsea during his debut season in the Premier League. The animated Italian made a decent start to life at Stamford Bridge before a 3-0 defeat away to Arsenal in September caused him to re-think his strategy. The former Juventus boss would then switch to a 3-4-3 formation that would bring the unlikely best out of the likes of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso while allowing superstar Eden Hazard to thrive again. However, this summer has not been what he expected. Not by a long stretch. With the club back in the Champions League and defending their Premier League crown, the Blues could not afford to stand still. While they may have recruited Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata, with John Terry, Nemanja Matic and Nathaniel Chalobah leaving the club and Diego Costa all but exiled, that's only papered over the cracks. With Matic departing for league rivals Manchester United, managed by Conte's predecessor, Jose Mourinho, Chelsea need another body in the midfield and it seems as though their boss has one man in mind.Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater appears to be Conte's favourite to fill the void and the 27-year-old may be a curious and expensive option to pursue.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol‏ insists that the interest is 'serious' and Conte 'likes him a lot'.

The Foxes have maintained Drinkwater is not for sale and coming off a disappointing campaign last season, would Chelsea really want to splash in the region of £30 million on him?

On Saturday, Conte was asked why the club would sell Matic to a direct title rival and his response suggested he is far from happy with the club's dealings this summer.

“You will have to ask the club about this," Conte replied.

“We have a very small squad and it’s very important to improve the numerical aspect.

“One new player will not be enough. We need more players. It’s important that the club knows my opinion and they are trying to do the best for our team. But now we have to wait.”
