The season is yet to begin and already VAR is coming under fire.As Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund went head-to-head in the DFL-Supercup Final on Saturday evening, video technology was called into use. This could have been the perfect opportunity for the system's critics to show what a useful tool it can be.However, somewhat predictably, it's attracting criticism following a bizarre incident involving Robert Lewandowski's goal.Joshua Kimmich appeared to be offside before he crossed it to the Bavarians' star man, who slotted home with a neat finish. The decision was referred to VAR, but it still stood. At first glance, it definitely looks as though it should have been disallowed, but it's divided opinion. Check out the goal below:Plenty of fans picked up on it on social media, with many questioning what the purpose of video referees are if they aren't able to correct simple decisions. Others pointed out that VAR actually picks up angles not necessarily visible to the naked eye:

Lewandowski's strike saw Bayern equalise against the Poland international's old club after BVB's Christian Pulisic had scored the opening goal.

Bayern have bigger issues

Carlo Ancelotti has bigger worries, as his squad was severely depleted for the game.

James Rodriguez, Thiago Alcantara, Arjen Robben, Jerome Boateng, Manuel Neuer, David Alaba and Juan Bernat were all missing. Their Bundesliga season gets underway in just 13 days' time at home to Bayer Leverkusen.

And Ancelotti admitted after the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool earlier this week that his side still aren't ready for the season to start. It certainly looks that way judging by their pre-season form.

"Our goal is to be in the best condition for Aug. 18 [against Leverkusen]," he said, per ESPN.

"Of course, we have to play an important game on Saturday [the DFL Super Cup against Dortmund], but sometimes if you are not in good condition you have to use a good attitude and spirit."
