Paris Saint-Germain's 2-0 win over Amiens was overshadowed somewhat by a certain new signing who was sitting in the stands.

Neymar was unable to make his debut in the game because the paperwork wasn't submitted in time for him to compete this weekend.

Unsurprisingly, though, all eyes were on the €222million man as he made his way into the Parc des Princes to watch his new side's season opener.

Much has been made of the Brazilian's record-breaking transfer.

Will he finally be able to surpass Lionel Messi? Has he genuinely moved to the French capital for a new challenge, or was he tempted by the £500,000 a week he'll be earning after tax?

One suggestion which has been doing the rounds is that Neymar's international team-mate - and fellow former Blaugrana - Dani Alves told him to quit Barca.

Some of the club's more bitter fans have even been blaming the 34-year-old for the deal happening at all.

Alves has responded

However, in the interview below with Esporte Interativo, brought to our attention by 101GreatGoals, a defiant Alves explained:

“In contrast to what people think, I am the grateful one because Neymar was the one who convinced me [to join PSG].”

“I didn’t have anything to do with [his transfer]. I only told him to be happy. [My arrival] wasn’t planned, but if he was able to convince me then it was because he was thinking about coming, I would say.”

The full-back's comments are very interesting, not least because he moved to PSG over three weeks ago.

Neymar has claimed he only started talks with the Ligue 1 outfit in the last few days, so it's very strange that he allegedly played a role in convincing Alves to head there too.

Ultimately, all this will be of little concern to Unai Emery, who will simply hope his new signings can give PSG what they've lacked since their meteoric rise over the last few years - a serious tilt at the Champions League.
