Isaiah Thomas is probably looking forward to the new season in order to build on what was an incredible 2016-17 season for him and the Boston Celtics.

2016-17 was a breakout year for the point guard, as he was able to demonstrate why he is one of the best players in the league today by helping Boston earn the number one seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time since their highly successful 2007-08 season when they won the NBA Championship.

On the back of another All-Star appearance too, Thomas only has one year remaining on his current deal with the Celtics before he could potentially hit free agency in the hunt for a max deal, one which many believes he deserves after what he has managed to accomplish.

The Celtics star spoke this past Saturday during his annual basketball clinic at BU about his future in the NBA beyond next season. He believes he has done enough in order to demand a max deal.

Thomas said about possibly getting a max deal, according to the Boston Herald: "Very confident. I deserve it. I put the work in, and you can put me down against any guard in the NBA. ... My numbers are up there with the best players in the world, and my team is winning. So, I mean, you have to reward that.

"At the end of the day I’m not too worried about it. I only talk about it when people bring it up, so everybody's always like, ‘He’s always talking.’ I’m not talking about it unless somebody brings it up. I’m just going to keep working though. My time is gonna come. I have a lot of faith in God, and I just have to keep working to get better."

As for if he thinks Celtics general manager Danny Ainge knows what Thomas wants, the point guard said: "He knows. Everybody knows. That’s just what it is. But we have a great relationship. Me and Danny and the Celtics organization, and I always said I would love to be here, but as everybody knows, it’s a business, and at the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you just like the business is going to do what’s best for them, and that’s all I can say on that."

Thomas averaged a career-high of 28.9 points per game last season for the Celtics, helping them achieve the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. However, their hunt for a first championship since their 2007-08 season ended at the Conference Finals stages with a 4-1 series defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
