With the club football season kicking off in less than a week's time, the pre-season formalities are almost over.

Most teams have returned home after their tours across the world and the final preparations will now be happening on the training ground.

Defending Premier League champions Chelsea and FA Cup holders Arsenal faced off at Wembley Stadium on Sunday to contest the Community Shield.

The game is seen as the traditional curtain raiser for the upcoming domestic campaign in England.

This year, it was the Gunners who made the ideal start, beating Antonio Conte's Chelsea on penalties.

The holders of the two European trophies play a similar game tomorrow evening, battling for the UEFA Super Cup.

Champions League winners Real Madrid take on Europa League holders Manchester United at the Philip II Arena in Skopje, Macedonia on Tuesday.

The game offers both Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho a final chance to prepare their teams for the new season.

The two sides have already met this summer, with United coming out on top. They beat the Spanish champions 2-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in California.

This week's game is expected to be far more intense, especially with silverware on the line. But one thing that will be similar to the game in July is the conditions the match will be played in.

Temperatures in Skopje hit 40C today, with tomorrow's game expected to be contested in 32C heat.

Those numbers are almost unheard of in England, so Mourinho's side had to make special plans to combat the heat.

Unfortunately, the United boss has revealed that preparations haven't gone to plan, due to good old British summertime weather.

Since returning from Los Angeles, he's had the squad training at 4pm every day, but the Manchester rain ensured players haven't exactly been feeling the heat.

"I knew the weather was like this," Mourinho said ahead of tomorrows game, as per the Mirror

"Since we were back from the States, I decided to train in Manchester every day at 4pm. I was trying to keep that feeling of the heat, but it was raining every day."

There's no doubt that both sets of players will struggle in the hot weather. With UEFA permitting two water breaks, in the 30th and 75th minute, those on the pitch will have to keep hydrated.

In such tough conditions, if the Red Devils beat Zidane's Galacticos like the did a few weeks ago, they'll be very confident for the season ahead.
