While the WWE is preparing itself for Summer Slam in just two weeks time, some rumours have began to emerge for the events which will take place in the months following.

Arguably the final marquee event of the calendar year for WWE, Survivor Series will take place in November and is being tipped to house one big match.

Coming to a head?

Smackdown Live made headlines last week when Shinsuke Nakamura gained a clean victory over John Cena.

While Nakamura's win was the biggest story from Smackdown, another big announcement saw Shane McMahon named the special guest referee for Kevin Owens' US Title match at Summer Slam.

Rumours of a future match between Owens and McMahon have been everywhere for several weeks and many fans thought the match would happen at Summer Slam.

However the match won't be taking place at Summer Slam as originally speculated and if Sunday's Wrestling Observer Live is to be believed, it may not be happening at all.

One match that Bryan Alvarez has suggested could be set for Survivor Series however, is a Team McMahon vs Team Owens five-on-five elimination tag team match.

Suggesting that each man could lead a team at Survivor Series, Alvarez claimed that this feud could evolve in the months following Summer Slam.

Alvarez failed to mention just who could be placed on each team, but given the way he has acted since joining Smackdown, it could be tough for KO to find some team-mates.

The five-on-five elimination tag team match has been a tradition of the Survivor Series PPV for decades and has given some of the show's biggest moments.

2017 could see Smackdown Live offer up a match with a lot of intrigue surrounding it as Survivor Series is synonymous with debuts.

A long build up

For weeks, McMahon and Owens have been clashing backstage on Smackdown as Owens continues to question the leadership of the Smackdown Commissioner.

It came to a head this past Tuesday night when Owens was left outraged by a refereeing decision during his US title match with AJ Styles.

It now looks like the two could have another altercation at Summer Slam which could lead to a feud between the two following the event.
