The unreal promotion of the upcoming mega-fight between Conor Mcgregor and Floyd Mayweather seems to have worked an absolute trick, with leading betting company Betfair revealing that the August 26 bout is now the most bet on event in boxing history.

With the fight still three weeks away, McGregor versus Mayweather has rocketed past the figure set by Mayweather versus Pacquiao, which stood at a massive £8.9 million.

Thus far, eager punters have splashed £11.3 million on bets involving the much-anticipated fight with Betfair predicting that that figure could well exceed a staggering £50 million by the time fight night finally comes around.

Kate Bayliss, a spokesperson for Betfair revealed the outrageous sums being batted about in a recent statement.

“With £11.3m bet on the outcome alone already, this is now the biggest boxing betting event in Betfair history.

“We expect this fight to trade well over £50m and could even get to the £100m mark, which would be one of our biggest sporting events of all time.

“Floyd Mayweather is the 1/5 favourite, with Conor McGregor at 5/1. As you would expect, most of the money is for Mayweather, however 40 per cent of bets are on McGregor, compared to 34 per cent on Mayweather and 26 per cent on the draw.

"The biggest single bet was £100k on Mayweather at the start of the month and we are sure to see plenty more bets of this nature as we edge closer to this massive sporting event."

The two bitter rivals will partake in what has to be one of the biggest grudge matches of all time when they take to the ring in Las Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather is the undisputed favourite to win, and probably the safest bet, but Conor McGregor is a frightfully determined man and will be desperate to prove his many doubters wrong.

Whatever the result, there are sure to be a lot of punters left disappointed and out of pocket on the 27th of August.
