Credit where it's due, Arsene Wenger is showing no signs of backing down over his stance on Alexis Sanchez's future.

The Arsenal manager has stuck to his guns in saying his star player will not be leaving this summer, let alone to Manchester City.

This is despite Sanchez being keen on a reunion with Pep Guardiola, who he played under for one year at Barcelona.

Bayern Munich were once keen on signing the Chilean, too, as were Chelsea, but both clubs ended their interest after being priced out of moves.

Sanchez has now accepted he may have to stay at Arsenal, so he's prepared to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract and leave on a free next summer.

Whether or not that's best for Arsenal is open to debate, but it would at least give Wenger time to convince Sanchez of signing a new deal.

The best way to do that would be by securing Champions League football and winning the Premier League, but the 2017/18 season is sure to be one of the most competitive yet.

As many as seven clubs are capable of finishing in the top four, suggesting Arsenal will need to spend more money between now and the end of the transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain are also known admirers of Sanchez but many assumed their pursuit had ended when they signed Neymar for a world-record £198 million.

That, however, is far from the case. According to the Independent, PSG still want to sign Sanchez and they're willing to spend a massive £80 million to do so.

The French giants will also offer Sanchez £400,000-per-week wages - which is somewhere close to what he's previously demanded at Arsenal.

If truth be told, Wenger would be crazy to reject £80 million for Sanchez. He may be their best player, but that's an insane amount of money for someone with 12 months remaining on their contract.

Sell the Chile international for £80 million and Arsenal would have the financial resources to sign any player they pleased.

Even Monaco's Kylian Mbappe wouldn't be out of their reach. The 18-year-old is available for £160 million, which Arsenal could easily afford with the money from Sanchez's sale.

Whether or not PSG will actually make such an outrageous bid remains to be seen, but even Arsenal fans would urge Wenger to take the money and run if they do.
